The Effect of Vanilla Extract on the Comfort Level of Neonates When Taking Venous Blood

Taking venous blood in neonates can be challenging. The discomfort felt when taking cause difficulties or even failure carrying out the procedure, so that collection must repeated another area. repetition of procedure has a negative impact on neonates, such as impaired psychological aspects and behavioral development. Vanilla extract similar aroma mother’s breast milk it was hypothesized could help provide comfort for neonates. This study described characteristics newborns, classified degree their disease, then determined level pain after blood. cross-sectional 36 hospitalized took place from October 1st – November 28th, 2020, perinatology room University Muhammadiyah Malang Hospital. data were collected nursing charts, analyzed based Neonatal Infant Pain Scale using scale. More than half newborns (64%) one day old, 19 female. most severe disease categorized 1 (28 newborns) which diagnosed premature rupture membranes umbilical cord infection. identified had an average value 4.94 ± 0.71. 22.5 3.41.
